Bieber, making his fifth start of the season, pitched six innings, allowing three hits and walking two batters while striking out six. His outing was described as his best of the season. The three hits he surrendered were all doubles, including leadoff doubles to Munetaka Murakami in the fourth and Braden Montgomery in the fifth, but Bieber managed to navigate out of both situations without allowing a run.
Pitching Performance and Defensive Plays
The Blue Jays‘ pitching staff combined for a four-hitter, securing their seventh shutout of the year. Following Bieber‘s six innings, Jeff Hoffman took over in the seventh, giving up a leadoff walk but then recording two strikeouts and a ground out. Ernie Clement contributed with a defensive play to help end the inning.
Tyler Rogers pitched the eighth inning, where he allowed a bunt single to Chase Meidroth. However, a caught stealing play, involving a throw from Kirk, a strikeout, and a fly out, concluded the inning without any runs. Louis Varland, an All-Star closer, finished the game in the ninth inning, securing his 20th save in 20 opportunities with a ground out, a strikeout, and a fly out.
The White Sox‘s right-hander, Davis Martin, permitted four hits over 5 2/3 innings, extending his winless streak to six starts. Martin walked two and struck out five batters during his appearance.
Offensive Contributions and Team Statistics
The Blue Jays‘ offence managed five hits and three walks in total. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. accounted for two of the four hits and also drew a walk. His double in the fourth inning set up the scoring opportunity that led to the team’s only run. George Springer‘s single up the middle brought Guerrero Jr. home.
Despite the win, the team had only one hit with runners in scoring position, which was Springer‘s single. Commemorating World Series Victories
Before the game, a special ceremony took place to unveil a statue celebrating the Blue Jays‘ back-to-back World Series championships in 1992 and 1993. The statue depicts former right-fielder Joe Carter in mid-jump, rounding the bases after his walk-off home run that secured the 1993 World Series title. This statue is located at the southeast corner of the ballpark, outside Gate 5.
The unveiling event was attended by nearly 30 alumni, including players, coaches, and executives from the championship teams. Among those present were Joe Carter himself, 1992 World Series MVP Pat Borders, and 1993 World Series MVP Paul Molitor. The statue was created as part of the franchise’s 50th anniversary celebration and replaces a previous statue of former Blue Jays owner Edward S. Rogers.
Looking ahead, the Blue Jays are scheduled to play again on Sunday, with right-hander Trey Yesavage slated to start against White Sox right-hander Sean Burke.
