Key Players Sidelined
The Saskatchewan Roughriders have placed several key players on the six-game injured list, as announced via their depth chart. Among those affected are receivers Samuel Emilus and Kian Schaffer-Baker, as well as defensive back Tevaughn Campbell. These additions come as the team prepares to host the Ottawa REDBLACKS.
Kian Schaffer-Baker and Tevaughn Campbell sustained injuries during the team’s 28-26 victory over the Edmonton Elks in Week 9. Samuel Emilus, who had a foot injury in Week 8 against Edmonton, was initially a game-time decision for Week 9 but was ultimately ruled out before kickoff. All three players were absent from practice throughout the week leading up to the announcement.

The new additions mean the Roughriders will be without several important contributors. Running back AJ Ouellette and defensive back Rolan Milligan Jr. were already on the six-game injured list. Head coach Corey Mace acknowledged the growing injury list, stating that while it is not ideal, many of the injuries are not season-ending.
Impact on the Roster
The injuries to Schaffer-Baker and Campbell during the Week 9 game required Saskatchewan to utilize its depth. Receivers Dhel Duncan-Busby, Johnny Johnson III, and D’Sean Mimbs contributed offensively to fill the void. In the secondary, James Burgess Jr. took on a larger role, though he is currently back on the practice roster.
Kian Schaffer-Baker leads the Roughriders in receiving yards with 704 on 45 catches, scoring four touchdowns. Samuel Emilus is third on the team with 448 yards from 31 receptions, and his five receiving touchdowns are tied for the team lead with KeeSean Johnson.
Despite the challenges posed by injuries, Saskatchewan secured its fifth win of the season, bringing their record to 5-2 heading into Week 10. The team is looking to maintain its performance as it faces the REDBLACKS.
Roster Adjustments and Upcoming Game
In response to the growing injury list, the team has made several roster adjustments. Linebacker Nick Wiebe, a former University of Saskatchewan Huskie, has been taking reps on offence and could be called upon to play fullback. This comes as both fullback Albert Awachie and Morgen Runge are also on the six-game injured list. Wiebe emphasized the team’s philosophy of being ready to play multiple positions, stating that the “next man up” mentality is prevalent in the locker room.
Defensive back Nelson Lokombo is set to return to the roster this week, taking the place of Campbell. Additionally, the Roughriders have signed kicker Dawson Hodge. The kicking position has seen scrutiny, with Alex Hale having made 12 of 17 field goal attempts this season, including one of five from beyond 40 yards. Coach Mace indicated that bringing in Hodge would create competition and provide options, while affirming that Alex Hale remains the starting kicker for the upcoming game.
The Roughriders and REDBLACKS are scheduled to kick off at 9:00 p.m. ET on Friday at Mosaic Stadium. Canadian fans can watch the game on TSN/RDS, while U.S. audiences can view it on CBS Sports Network.
