The recent change in how Desjardins displays credit card balances on its AccèsD platform has led to significant confusion among customers. The new system shows only billed amounts, excluding payments in processing and preauthorized holds. As a result, many users are experiencing delays in seeing their updated balances, which can take up to 24 hours to reflect recent payments.
Previously, the balance displayed on the home page included authorized transactions that had not yet been billed, providing a more comprehensive view of a customer’s financial standing. This shift has left some customers feeling as if they are victims of fraud, as they are unable to see their payments reflected immediately.
In addition to the changes in balance display, Desjardins has removed the option for customers to pay their full balance with a single click. Users are now required to manually enter the amount they wish to pay, which has further complicated the payment process. Sylvain Bouchard, a vocal critic of the change, expressed his frustration, stating, “I have to get my calculator!”
Desjardins asserts that the new display is intended to provide a more precise billed balance. However, the decision has not been well received, with many customers questioning the benefits of such a change. One user lamented, “When I pay my credit card, I want to see the balance at 0 right away, I don’t want to wait 24 hours, we’re not in 1900.”
The backlash has been significant, with a petition against the changes gathering over 5,500 signatures. Customers are demanding clarity and a return to the previous system that offered a more immediate reflection of their payments.
Jean-Benoît Turcotti, a spokesperson for Desjardins, defended the changes, stating, “We are enhancing our credit card system; there were features we needed to evolve to ensure we always offer an optimal experience to members and clients.” However, many customers remain unconvinced, questioning the actual gains from this new system.
Furthermore, a TikTok video discussing the issue has garnered over 330,000 views, highlighting the widespread concern and confusion surrounding the changes. The visible frustration among users suggests that Desjardins may need to reconsider its approach to balance display.
Desjardins has indicated that adjustments may be made in response to customer feedback, but as of now, the changes remain in place. Details remain unconfirmed regarding any potential modifications to the system.
