Gas prices have lowered across Newfoundland and Labrador for the first time since late-February, with the Public Utilities Board announcing a decrease of 10 cents per litre on March 25, 2026. This adjustment brings maximum prices for gasoline in Newfoundland to between $1.82 and $1.98 per litre, while in Labrador, prices now range from $1.60 to $1.93 per litre.
In addition to gasoline, diesel prices have also seen significant reductions, dropping almost 22 cents per litre in Newfoundland and 21.5 cents in Labrador West and Churchill Falls. The new maximum prices for diesel in Newfoundland are now between $2.35 and $2.48 per litre, and in Labrador, they range from $1.75 to $2.48 per litre.
Furnace oil prices have decreased by just over 19 cents per litre, while stove oil prices in Labrador West and Churchill Falls dropped by over 18.6 cents per litre. This overall decline in fuel prices marks a welcome change for residents, who have faced rising costs since February 20, 2026.
Local resident Terry O’Neill expressed the sentiment of many, stating, “It’s got to be a strain on just about everybody.” He noted that the ongoing fluctuations in fuel prices have led to a growing demand for transparency from the Public Utilities Board. “A lot of them are saying, you know, enough is enough, right? They’re sort of demanding that the Public Utilities Board or the government step in and stop this ridiculous instability,” O’Neill added.
As the price of gasoline had not decreased since February 20, the recent adjustments are viewed as a much-needed relief for consumers. However, O’Neill cautioned that when increases occur, they often lead to a snowballing effect on other costs, stating, “When [an increase] happens, there’s a snowballing effect. Everything else increases.”
