The cruise industry is currently facing significant disruptions as Royal Caribbean has announced the cancellation of over 20 pre-booked itineraries for summer 2027. This decision is expected to have a considerable impact on travelers who had planned trips to popular destinations such as the Bahamas, the Dominican Republic, Aruba, and Curaçao.
The cancellations come shortly after a similar announcement from Carnival Cruise Line, which has also scrapped 11 itineraries for fall 2026. Such widespread cancellations raise concerns about the stability of the cruise market and the potential for further disruptions.
In a statement reflecting the frustration of many travelers, a British traveler lamented, “Ça me frustre tellement quand ils font ça,” highlighting the emotional toll these changes can have on vacation plans.
Amidst these cancellations, Holland America Line is launching a new 8-day itinerary called Far East Discovery, which departs from Singapore on November 27, 2027. Paul Grigsby, a representative for Holland America, expressed enthusiasm for the new route, stating, “Ce que j’aime dans cet itinéraire, c’est le contraste que l’on découvre en seulement huit jours,” emphasizing the unique experiences it offers.
On a different note, CroisiEurope recently celebrated its 50th anniversary in March 2026, marking a significant milestone in the cruise industry. The company inaugurated the MS R.E. Waydelich L.J. on the Seine, a vessel that boasts 42 cabins and can accommodate a maximum of 81 passengers, supported by a crew of 250 members for the gala event.
Christian Schmitter, a representative of CroisiEurope, remarked, “Cinquante ans, c’est un chiffre important dans la vie d’une entreprise familiale,” reflecting on the importance of longevity in the cruise business. The company transports approximately 205,000 passengers annually, showcasing its robust presence in the market.
As the cruise industry navigates these turbulent waters, uncertainties remain regarding the future of scheduled itineraries and the potential for further cancellations. Details remain unconfirmed, leaving travelers and industry stakeholders alike in a state of anticipation.
