4 CFL Weekly Fantasy Sleepers you need in your lineup in Week 9 - CFL.ca

Week 9 of the Canadian Football League season includes a rematch between the Edmonton Elks and the Saskatchewan Roughriders, following their Week 8 encounter. The schedule also features Friday Night Football with the Montreal Alouettes visiting the Ottawa Redblacks, and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats hosting the Calgary Stampeders.

Key Matchups and Player Spotlights

The Elks and Roughriders will face off again at Commonwealth Stadium. Their previous game saw the Elks secure a victory, with quarterback Cody Fajardo throwing for 510 yards and four touchdowns against his former team. Despite this offensive output, the Roughriders had been considered the league’s top pass defence. The Elks are allowing the fewest offensive points per game entering Week 9, while Saskatchewan ranks third in this category.

For the Roughriders, running back AJ Ouellette did not practice on Tuesday, which could lead to Quali Conley seeing significant offensive snaps. Conley previously made consecutive starts, accumulating 21.4 Fantasy Points and a touchdown with 124 yards from scrimmage. He averages 5.4 yards per carry.

The Alouettes, currently on a four-game win streak, will play the Redblacks. Montreal‘s running back Travis Theis has been a key offensive player, with 123 yards in Week 7 and a career-high 156 yards in Week 8. The Redblacks‘ defence has struggled against rushing attacks, allowing an average of 123.2 rushing yards against per game and 23.7 rushing attempts against per game, with an average of 5.2 yards against per carry.

In the game between the Tiger-Cats and Stampeders, Hamilton quarterback Tre Ford scored 10.4 Fantasy Points in Week 8 against a strong defence. The Stampeders‘ defence has allowed 29 offensive majors and 435.1 offensive yards, which could present an opportunity for Ford. The Stampeders‘ offence, led by quarterback Vernon Adams Jr., averages 39.7 points per game and has scored 50 points in a game twice this season. Adams Jr. has a record of 18 touchdown passes without an interception to start the season and 23 consecutive majors without an interception dating back to last year.

Hamilton‘s defence is strong in categories such as points allowed (27.1), net offence allowed (369.7), and passing yards allowed (283.1). However, they have shown some vulnerability against the run, which could be a factor against the Stampeders, who lead the league in rushing yards per game.

Other Players to Watch

Brendan O’Leary-Orange of the Elks has recorded double-digit fantasy totals in two of his last three games. He has caught 81.8 percent of his targets (18 of 22) and scored his first touchdown of the 2026 season in Week 8. His salary is listed at $7,200.

Larry Rountree III of the Tiger-Cats has been increasingly involved in the passing game, with 22 combined passing targets and 17 receptions over the last four games. He averages more than five targets and four receptions per game during this period. The Stampeders‘ defence has allowed an average of 36.6 pass attempts against per game and 25.1 receptions against per game.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers quarterback Dru Brown has been a streaming option since taking over for an injured player. He has attempted 40 or more passes in Winnipeg‘s last two games, with an average of 38 pass attempts in his three starts. He averages 301.7 passing yards per game.

Damonte Coxie, a receiver for the Toronto Argonauts, has been targeted 36 times over the last four games, averaging 9.0 targets per game. He has caught 25 of those 36 targets and accumulated 378 combined yards over the same period.

Nick Mardner, the second overall pick of the 2024 CFL Canadian Draft, has been a full participant in practice this week after missing the entire 2025 regular season due to a lower-body injury. His return could add a downfield presence to the REDBLACKS‘ receiving game.

The Week 9 schedule begins with the BC Lions playing the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Thursday.
