The BMO Vancouver Marathon has reached capacity in record time, with over 25,000 participants expected for the event on May 3, 2026. This remarkable turnout underscores the marathon’s popularity and the strong sense of community it fosters.

Organized by the Vancouver International Marathon Society, RUNVAN, this marathon is not just a race—it’s a celebration of community spirit. The route winds through some of Vancouver’s most picturesque neighborhoods, including Queen Elizabeth Park and Coal Harbour.

However, such enthusiasm brings challenges. Road closures will be implemented to ensure participant safety and smooth operations. Specifically:

Closures will begin at 5 p.m. on Saturday and last until 3 p.m. on Sunday near the finish area close to Coal Harbour.

In other parts of the city, road closures will conclude by 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Some neighborhoods will experience closures starting Saturday.

Participants are encouraged to use public transit as their primary means of transportation to avoid complications due to these road closures. The organizers express gratitude for the community’s patience during this busy time—”Thanks for your patience and cooperation in helping Vancouver deliver a world-class event,” they noted.

As race day approaches, excitement builds among both participants and spectators. Yet uncertainties linger about how these road closures might affect local traffic patterns and daily commutes in the surrounding areas.
