Insp. Darren Smith of the Calgary Police elaborated on the situation, stating, “The lockdown was issued once we were able to confirm through CCTV, working with Mount Royal security, that there was in fact someone that walked on campus with a knife.” This confirmation prompted immediate action to ensure the safety of everyone on campus.

As the situation unfolded, it was revealed that the individual in question was a staff member, specifically a chef at the university. He was carrying what appeared to be a chef’s knife as he made his way to work.

Insp. Smith emphasized the seriousness of the situation, noting, “We take these threats very seriously. One person was taken into custody following the incident, and while charges may be laid, police confirmed that there was no ongoing threat to public safety during the lockdown.
